We’re thrilled to have been named AWS Cloud Innovation Award winner for AI/ML and IoT 2023 at the AWS Partner Awards for our work with Swoop Aero to upgrade its technology platform with AWS IoT Core and machine learning for critical air logistics.
AWS has been a key part of DiUS’ 18-year journey. In fact, we first used S3 in 2007 and since then, AWS has been a part of almost every engagement we’ve been on. We’ve also been an AWS Advanced Consulting Partner since 2012—over a decade—and were the first partner in Australia and New Zealand to attain the AWS Machine Learning Competency in 2019 and the first partner in Asia Pacific and Japan to attain the Applied AI Competency in 2022.
We’re extremely proud to add this award to our previous accolades—AWS Consulting Partner of the Year in 2016, AWS Innovation Partner of the Year in 2017 and finalist in 2018, and AWS Social Impact Partner of the Year finalist in 2022.
This latest honor recognises DiUS’ ability to help our clients innovate and transform at speed and scale. We’ve always been at the intersection of cutting-edge technology development and practical business application, so we’re thrilled to have been able to apply Edge AI/ML—the game-changing combinatorial effect of AI/ML and edge computing—to support Swoop Aero in reaching 1 billion people by 2030.

Integrating AWS IoT Core and Machine Learning for critical air logistics
Already operating in several countries from Africa and Europe to the Pacifics, demand for Swoop Aero’s medical air logistics service grew dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Melbourne-based startup needed to increase the scale of its operations, fast. In doing so, it needed to maintain and improve the quality, reliability and security of its global fleet.
DiUS collaborated with Swoop Aero to upgrade its technology platform with AWS IoT Core to enable greater reliability, security and safety at scale across its two-way autonomous drone networks. The underlying embedded firmware built by DiUS enabled feature-rich application software to be developed for the aircraft, including Edge AI/ML capabilities. State-of-the-art computer vision models were utilised across its global operations to increase safety, while landing its fleet and expanding its services to other impact-driven use cases.
Swoop Aero has transported more than 1.3 million critical items to rural and hard-to-reach communities and reached over 4.3 million people with air logistics, globally. Closer to home, Swoop Aero has commenced Australian operations in regional Queensland to improve the availability and accessibility of essential healthcare for remote communities. Additionally, it obtained approval to operate beyond visual line-of-sight in New Zealand as it prepares to launch the country’s first Integrated Drone Logistics network in partnership with Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand.
Beyond its delivery service, DiUS is supporting Swoop Aero across other impactful use cases including search and rescue, disaster management and environmental conservation—a true demonstration of how emerging technologies, coupled with a bold vision and a passionate team can help solve some of the world’s most pressing issues.
